The 2018 HKUGA College Sports Day was a thrilling and tense event. The whole school gathered at the Wan Chai Sports Ground where the six houses competed in cheering competitions and track and field events. Throughout the day, students and teachers cheered enthusiastically from the bleachers while the school’s Prime Production Team worked hard to broadcast live video on the stadium’s screen.

Ms Li, the Head of the PE Department, said she was very pleased with the athletes’ performance during the day. Many students broke school records, and she expects that our athletes will do well in the upcoming inter-school competitions. She noted that the 100-meters runners, in particular, did very well.

Ms Li was also very grateful for the help given by all teachers and student helpers. This year’s Sports Day brought a number of challenges, including reorganizing the events; unlike previous years, the heats day was a half-day and the finals were a full day. However, with careful preparation and contributions from many parties, the programs ran smoothly and successfully.

Abby Law from Suukyi set new records for the girls B grade long jump and girls B grade 100 meter hurdle. On the day, Abby was not satisfied with her performance because she was too tired and she hadn’t done her best in the 200 meters. Abby also said that she hadn’t had any time to prepare for Sports Day due to her duties as the Suukyi Vice House Captain. However, she was able to overcome these difficulties and achieve great success. In the coming year, Abby wants to see her house achieve further success in events, since she believes that are many talented people in Suukyi.

This year’s Sports Day ended with Copland winning the Overall Championship, while Suukyi came in second place and Laozi came in third. Congratulations to all the athletes for their superb athletic performances and to all house members for their wonderful, enthusiastic cheering. Here’s to an even more exciting event next year!
